Do I Need a Custom Knee Brace?
In order to purchase a Custom Knee Brace an Initial Assessment with one of our Registered Physiotherapists is required. Our Physiotherapists will assess, and educate you on the best solution for your specific condition. Patients with conditions such as those listed above are typically good candidates for Custom Knee Braces. Off-the-shelf alternative braces, which are usually a less expensive method of bracing, may be a more suitable way to treat other conditions. Rest assured our Physiotherapists provide honest, customized care to ensure the method selected will work best for you!
Are Custom Knee Braces Covered By Extended Health?
Many extended health plans do cover custom knee braces. We may need to get pre-approval with your particular plan. Please check the details of your policy to see if custom knee braces are a reimbursable expense.
Do I Need A Referral From My Family Doctor?
You do not need a referral for us to make you a custom knee brace, however, your insurance company may require one if you wish to claim it as an expense. Each insurance company is different, so please check your policy as to who can prescribe a custom knee brace.
How Often And For How Long Can I Wear My Custom Knee Brace?
Custom Knee Bracing has become a popular method to treating a number of conditions as it allows people to maintain an active lifestyle and prolong surgery for as long as possible.
Studies have shown that being regularly active can be good for the knee, as it helps to stimulate cartilage cells and keep body weight down. There is no side effect to wearing a knee brace, and it can be worn indefinitely. Old myths that wearing a knee brace will weaken the muscles around your knee have shown to be incorrect, with the opposite being true since often the person can exercise and develop stronger muscles with exercise.
